All materials treated with the preservative pentachlorophenol or creosote are not accepted at the Lexington County Edmund Landfill or Transfer Station. Contact a preferred Class III Municipal Solid Waste Landfill Facility (i.e. Republic Waste or Waste Management Landfills) for disposal of these materials.
Lexington County charges "tipping fees" to businesses and non-Lexington County residents to dispose of items at the Edmund Landfill or Transfer Station. The fees vary according to the type of waste and customer. See the Fee Schedule for details. Proof of residency must be shown by residents when bringing material. Call (803) 755-3325 for additional information.
If your load requires payment, you may pay by cash, check or citizens may pay by the Over-The-Counter (OTC) credit card payment option. Credit card payments include a small transaction fee. Frequent business customers may apply for a credit account through Lexington County Solid Waste Management by completing and returning this form. Establishing a credit account requires a one-time $25 processing fee.
The Landfill Hours are Monday-Saturday 7:00 AM to 4:30 PM. If you have large loads, plan enough time to dispose of your items accordingly.
1 | All material brought to the landfill and all vehicles picking up material (such as purchasing compost from our composting partner) must cross the scale and drivers must check in at the scale house.
2 |
All vehicles must STOP and WAIT at the stop sign at the end of the scale. Only ONE vehicle is allowed on the scale at a time. |
|
3 |
When it is your turn to drive on to the scale, make sure your vehicle is completely on the scale. Listen for instructions from the scale operator in the window. |
|
4 | Be prepared to show your driver's license or other proof of Lexington County residency and to explain what type of material you have and where it came from.
5 | The scale house operator may inspect your load or ask additional questions to determine if payment is due and/or where your materials should be taken.
6 | Residents who do not have a safety vest or other safety clothing will be given a safety vest to use on site. Please return the safety vest to the scale house before leaving. NOTE: Commercial customers are required to provide your own safety clothing.
7 | The scale house operator will give you directions for unloading your materials. Assistance is not provided on site (except to load compost and mulch) and helpers must ride in your vehicle. If helpers came to the landfill in a second vehicle, the second vehicle must stay in the visitor parking lot. |
Have a mixed load? Plan ahead and pack your vehicle in this order for quick and easy unloading at the Edmund Landfill:

Can I take material from the landfill?
No. Lexington County Ordinance prevents individuals from removing material from Lexington County property which includes the Edmund Landfill and all 11 of the Collection and Recycling Centers.
What if the Freon has been removed from the refrigeration unit?
You must present a statement from a certified EPA technician on letterhead with their EPA certification number stating that the Freon was removed by them. Otherwise both businesses and individual residents are charged a $15 fee per unit to ensure that the Freon is removed and disposed of safely.
What is a transfer station?
A transfer station is a large building in which household garbage is deposited and compacted. The Edmund Landfill has a transfer station which is permitted to process and transfer up to 2,000 tons of household garbage from Lexington County each day. It is then transferred to Waste Management's private landfill in Richland County.
How can I arrange a group tour of the Edmund Landfill or a group presentation?
Contact Lexington County's Solid Waste Management Team at recycling@lex-co.com. Presentations and tours of the landfill, transfer station, compost facility and recycling center can be given with 2 weeks or more advance notice.
