Animal Services

It is the goal of Lexington County Animal Services to provide all citizens with prompt and professional assistance with their animal control needs. Our main purpose is to prevent animal attacks and to control the numbers of stray animals in Lexington County. Animal Services picks up stray dogs and enforces county ordinances that require all dogs be properly restrained at all times.

There is an animal control officer on call around the clock. However, due to the size of the county, the officers can only respond to emergency calls after normal business hours and on the weekends.

The calls that are considered emergency calls are:

  • injured animals
  • animal attacks, or
  • other public safety organizations requesting assistance.

We do not respond after hours to pick up stray animals.

Lexington County Animal Services also has an adoption program with many dogs and cats awaiting new homes.  We invite anyone interested in a new animal to take a look at the adoptable pets using the link below or come to the shelter to view the animals we have for adoption.  You may find your new best friend!

Important Forms

These forms are in PDF format and may be printed out and submitted to Animal Services.

Educating the Public

Educating the public about the importance of spay and neuter is an important component of Animal Service’s duties.  Pets that are not spayed or neutered can cause the number of stray and unwanted animals to rise at an astounding rate.
