West Columbia Murders and Mysteries Walking Tour

The Lexington County Museum will offer its FREE “Murders and Mysteries” walking tour of West Columbia on April 21st starting at 8 pm. This tour is a great way to learn about the history of the town and hear some very interesting stories along the way. Attendees will learn about some of the murders, bootlegging, and other crimes that occurred on Meeting and State Streets in the 19th and early 20th centuries. This free tour will begin at the Riverwalk Amphitheater and will last about an hour. Attendees will follow a guide from the amphitheater to State Street and to Center Street. Because of the mature subject matter, attendees must be 18 or over or have parental permission. This event is offered at no cost and no reservations are needed. Great Out Doors Day

On Saturday, April 29 from 1:00 pm until 300 pm, the Lexington County Museum will host a free outdoor meet-up for Lexington area children, teens, and Boy and Girl Scouts with the theme “Celebrating the Great Outdoors.” All activities and presentations will be held on the Lexington County Museum grounds and are free. This event will feature the following program:

– “Amazing South Carolina Birds”: Jeanette Wells, a Saluda Shoals Park interpreter and notable SC midlands wildlife authority, will lead a bird talk with an emphasis on area predatory birds, to include owls and hawks.
– Making Birds Comfortable: Sandy DeFrance of Wild Birds Unlimited-Lexington will discuss bird feeder and bird house recommendations.
– Protecting Birds in Your Own Backyard: John Myers, interpreter of the Lexington County Museum will present ideas on supporting bird life. There also will be an information table on possible scout merit badges on birding and conservation.

Chairs will be provided but you may bring your own seating for comfort, for example, lawn chairs, blankets or camp stools!
