Lexington County Council named Mr. Lynn Sturkie as the County of Lexington’s new administrator during Tuesday night’s council meeting.
Sturkie, 55, a lifelong resident of Lexington County, was deemed as the top choice out of 41 candidates generated during a nationwide search because of his experience within leadership roles and his passion for serving the residents and visitors of Lexington County.
“Lynn’s background and his attitude of giving all of himself to the service of our community is what solidified our decision,” Lexington County Council Chairman Todd Cullum said. “We know that he will do an exemplary job of continuing to propagate a culture of selfless and high-quality service within the County for years to come.”
Sturkie was named as the County’s interim-administrator on Jan. 1, 2021, following the retirement of Joe Mergo, III. Since then, Sturkie has taken on the day-to-day operations of the County and has begun preparing the County for its upcoming budget cycle. Additionally, County Council was able to observe that Sturkie possessed all of the qualities of the candidate that Council was looking for, and he was very well respected and esteemed by the County’s staff, Cullum said.
Sturkie became a County employee in April 2012, when he was named as the director of technology services. In that role, he coordinated and developed the implementation of technology-based systems and policies throughout the County’s various departments and ensured the security and integrity of the County’s technical services. Before coming to the County, Sturkie worked in a leadership role in private sector for 25 years. Specifically, he was a director for CGI Group, Inc. in Columbia, S.C., where he was responsible for implementing production support, account management and financial forecasting.
Sturkie currently lives in West Columbia, S.C. with his wife. He has four children and one grandchild.
