Help Turn Wood Waste Into Compost

Currently, yard waste from curbsides (which is often packaged in plastic bags) is buried in the Lexington County Edmund C&D Landfill. However, "clean wood waste" from Lexington County's Collection & Recycling Centers and from the Edmund Landfill is ground into mulch and compost which will extend the life of the landfill.

Clean wood waste such as clean (untreated) lumber, pallets, stumps, branches, shrubbery, greenery, leaves, pine straw, grass clippings (NO PLASTIC BAGS or CONTAINERS) are accepted at the Edmund Landfill (498 Landfill Lane, Lexington, 29073).  Also the Clean Wood Waste compactor at selected Collection and Recycling Centers will accept Christmas trees and other clean wood waste listed above, but no greater than 4 feet in length and 4 inches in diameter.  NO PLASTIC BAGS - paper bags are acceptable.

Collection and Recycling Centers with Clean Wood Waste Containers:

  • Ball Park (301 Ball Park Rd, Lexington)
  • Bush River (6109 Bush River Rd, Columbia)
  • Chapin (103 Distant Ln, Chapin)
  • Edmund (325 Landfill Ln, Lexington)
  • Sandhills (3241 Charleston Hwy, Cayce)
  • Southeast (538 Martin Neese Rd, Swansea)

Before coming to the landfill or collection and recycling center, separate the clean wood material from other trash and construction debris.
